The Rosenkoetter Family Vacation

Well, hello! My name is Dana Rosenkoetter Miller. Hence, the Rosenkoetter, yes my maiden name. The spelling may be a bit tricky but it’s a good name.

Anyways, way too much about a name haha! So, every year for the last few years we have these things called the Rosenkoetter Family Vacations.

Stopped at the beach in Miami

Hmm… maybe some back story. I have two parents, Paul and Gayle, who are wonderful. I also have a brother, Brent, who is 6 years older than I am. He is married to the beautiful Malory. Then, there is me, L, and our boys. It was soooooo hard to get all of us together every year with everyone’s work schedules. Consequently, we as a family have basically said, “If we don’t see each other on holidays it’s ok!” That makes things soooooo much less stressful let me tell you, but are you ready?

We get together every year in a different location. Jointly, we pick the location at the prior vacation. We all fly in, rent a car, rent a big house for us all to stay in and boom, a week of Rosenkoetter fun!

Swamp Tours in The Everglades

What do these vacations entail? I am so glad you asked (no one asked haha). Well, every single one of us is a HUGE foodie! Brent is actually a chef. My dad should be a grill master, Malory is the queen of twists on your favorite comfort food and of course mom brings all the great comfort foods to the table (don’t doubt her, she also throws in a few twists of her own, she’s feisty!!) Because we are such big food people we ALWAYS fit in a food tour. Then, of course, we go sight seeing and souvenir shopping. One of our favorite events is when the grandparents offer to baby sit and us youngins get a date night.

I don’t know about you guys but traveling with young children and eating dinner out every night or eating all meals out every day is……. well less then ideal! Thankfully, the VRBO (or Airbnb) comes in extremely handy. We do our own thing for breakfast since we all come from different time zones and all live on different time schedules. The evening usually finds us doing at least 1 dinner out. Other than that, we all take turns making dinner. It’s a lot of fun to see what everyone comes up with. I think it’ll start getting interesting as our locations become more rural and exotic. Lunch is always “out and about” exploring and sampling the real local “holes in the wall” to get a great idea of the food.

We are going into our third year of this. Yes, it’s fairly new but it’s an amazing tradition. So, we have been to Florida Keys, New Orleans, and this year since my family and I are overseas, we decided why not meet in a different country and take a stab at international travel. Sorry, you have to wait and see where the location is.

New Orleans Swamp tour (Owen did have fun even though his eyes are closed)

Why have I dedicated an entire post about this you ask? Don’t worry I am about to tell you.

I plan to do a Rosenkoetter Family Vacation post for every trip we have done. I will tell you everything we did. Put up links to restaurants or museums or even tours we did. Don’t you fret, I will provide more than enough pictures!

Even Evan was on the trip to New Orleans!

Actually, in the next few weeks I will start getting together all the information about our Florida Keys Vacation.

Get ready to “join in” on the Rosenkoetter fun!!

Till the next mess,

Dana
