Sixth Wedding Anniversary

Since Saturday was our 6th year wedding anniversary, it only made sense to do a love post instead of the book review I had planned. I sat there wracking my brain, what should I talk about? Do I want to give advice? Do I want to write anniversary tips? Do I want a recap of the last 6 years??
Suddenly it dawned on me…..
It’s time to share our love story! Now be prepared, I am a bit bias. I think its pretty darn adorable. Sit back and see how this whirlwind life came to be.
Let’s do a little time travel, shall we???
August 2012, was the first time I laid eyes on this beautiful human. He walked into the Starbucks where I was working wearing jeans, flip flops and a black baseball cap. He ordered a tall iced dopio espresso with vanilla and cream. He sat over in one of the leather chairs across the lobby and played on his computer for a few hours. I WAS SMITTEN.
I worked at a drive-thru store, so we all wore headsets. Everyone of my co-workers and I really mean EVERYONE knew about the crush I had on “Mr. Sexy!” Yes, that is his nickname. Everyone knew I called him that. I also didn’t know his real name. Actually, I didn’t know anything about him, just that he made my life exciting!
One day he had ordered a spinach wrap from my manager and great friend who told me to hand it out. Hahaha, I walked over to the hand-off counter and said, “Jake I’ve got your spinach wrap!” Next thing I hear is Alyssa booming across the store; “Hahahaha, did you just call him Jake?” “Thats not his name!” Well, let’s just pause here for a second. You will soon discover that…well, I am really really good at embarrassing myself.
We still had never actually shared in a conversation except for me saying hello and giving him his orders. Day after day though, some casual remarks would come up. He would compliment my hair if I wore it slightly different (which of course I fumbled over a thank you and a response like a blubbering idiot) haha. He would comment on me coming back to work from being on a break. The town we lived in,Yuma, is a small agricultural area. One day while driving around town, I swore I saw Mr. Sexy driving his sporty Lexus. The next morning I got really brave and asked him, “Do you live out in the foothills?” Hahaha you should have seen the look on his face, he was so freaked out. (He is extremely private) I had to hurry and tell him I thought I passed him driving.
Weeks went on like this. My feelings for Mr. Sexy were so strong that all my friends and co-workers knew “if it wasn’t him” I would be single forever. Crazy…right? I still didn’t know what he did or really anything about him.
I know, I know you’re wondering…”Dana how did you get from that to dating???” Ok, I had this friend and co worker who shadowed my “now brother-in-law” at work. Some how, Mr. Sexy having a crush on me came up. My friend K was quick on his toes saying, “Oh my gosh. She is IN LOVE with him. Yes, Dana, the neurotic one!” HAHAHA , well thanks to my friend K, a week later L came in on a weekend morning. I chatted a bit with him, made his coffee and watched him go sit outside with his parents. My friend Ashley and I were both working “on bar” that morning (of course talking about him). The next thing I knew, he came in and slid me a note. Yes, like we were little high schoolers. I hurriedly shoved it in my pocket. He walked out and I turned to Ashley. She had this huge giddy smile and over the headset said, “Dana all your dreams just came true!!” I don’t even know how long it took me before I finally got someone to cover for me and I ran to the back to read it.
I will keep that letter between us, but know I texted him that day. I think it was that night we had our first date which was perfect, conversation was so easy, we just clicked so well. Hours later the date was over and I was back at my apartment. I knew then, like I had known for weeks before. This is the man I will spend the rest of my life with.
Well, as you will see, I was worried about him feeling the same after our second date, haha. Most of you don’t know this but I really like baseball, I am a huge Yankees fan. Don’t judge, keep those comments to yourself hahah. Anyways, L took me to this little bar to have a beverage and to watch part of the game. I got just a beer. Took 1 sip. Literally 1. OH very important detail, I was wearing shorts, a t-shirt and just some tennis shoes. I told him I’d be back… needed to go to the restroom. Are you ready for this???
I forgot our table was on a step and I FACE PLANTED. Yep, right there in the middle of the bar in the middle of the day. Boom. Dana down. I popped up, turned to L giggled and said, “Hey watch out there is a step there.” Then I high tailed it to the bathroom, closed the door behind me and died a little. I thought right then, OK… this will be our last date. I walked back to the table and he never mentioned it. It wasn’t brought up between us again ‘till MONTHS later. I have recently found out that, my reaction and how I handled that situation was one of the, “I’m going to marry that girl,” moments for him.

We had 6 months of amazing dates, beach trips, a Napa and Sonoma wine trip and much more. In April, L took me to the beach for an amazing picnic, a day of tanning and playing in the water. Later, we stopped at the Point Loma light house. (I have a big love for lighthouses, apparently he remembered that!) To my surprise, he had brought me up there to see the light house, to see the spectacular view of the bay and to propose. It was such a perfect and romantic day.
We have now been married for 6 exciting years! I obviously said “YES!!”

Don’t be surprised that not a single week in our years together has gone by with out me completely embarrassing myself. So, even through all of our adventures, kids we have had, and the moves we have made, that aspect of our relationship hasn’t changed!!
I hit the husband and best friend jackpot with Mr. Sexy. I cannot imagine a single day with out him.
I hope you enjoyed getting a glimpse into our love story.
Till the next mess,
Dana
